1. Pressed Flower Suncatcher: Catch Some Sun and Color

DIY Spring Crafts for kids and adults

Who doesn’t love a good suncatcher? Pressed flowers are like nature’s confetti, and they make the perfect addition to your windows to let in the light and some vibrant colors. Plus, every time the sun shines through, you’ll get to admire your beautiful creation!

What you’ll

need:

  • Fresh flowers (wildflowers, daisies, or any of your favorite blooms)
  • Wax paper
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon (for hanging)

How to make it:

  1. Press your flowers between two sheets of wax paper, then carefully iron them (make sure to use a towel over the wax paper to avoid any mess).
  2. Once the flowers are pressed flat and dry, cut them into fun shapes or arrange them however you like.
  3. Attach the flowers to clear contact paper or use a frame to make your suncatcher.
  4. Hang it up in a sunny spot and watch as it comes to life when the sunlight shines through!

What you’ll need:

  • Pencil for tracing shapes
  • Picture frame (optional)

How to make it:

  1. Cut out flower shapes from your colored paper. The more vibrant, the better!
  2. Layer the shapes to create dimensional flowers, securing them with glue or tape.
  3. Arrange the flowers on a piece of white cardstock in a fun design.
  4. Frame it for a fabulous piece of spring wall art—or just hang it up as is!

Maybe you have been hearing the buzz about how fun a paint and sip class is and you are ready to jump in and join the fun.  Or maybe you are a long-time paint and sipper and want to find more events and classes you can attend.

So let’s get you painting!

Artvana is a leading paint and sip provider in Washington state and we started locally in Yelm WA in 2017Since then we have expanded our team of artists to 10 and the number of WA counties we paint in to 6!

WA Counties where you can find Artvana Paint and Sip:

King | Pierce | Kitsap | Thurston | Lewis | Spokane

We offer a large selection of approximately 30-40 classes per month, so you have more date and time options to paint.  One thing that really makes Artvana unique is that we do not have our own ‘Studio’ space.  Instead of limiting ourselves to one location that people need to travel to, we travel to you!  With a large list of excellent local partner venues, you can find classes near you almost anywhere!

Each venue brings a different vibe and atmosphere so you can pick and choose your paint and sips.  From coffee houses to breweries, alcohol or N/A, we know there is a paint-and-sip event waiting in our calendar that will be perfect for you!

Now let’s shine a spotlight on 3 of our partner venues!  Today we will be focusing on our partners in Olympia Washington.

#1. Top Rung Brewing, Lacey Washington

Top Rung is one of our long-standing partner venues and we have been painting it up there since 2018!  Retired firefighters opened Top Rung Brewing which has a stylish firefighter theme including hanging ladders.  It’s big and spacious with huge tables for painting which we love, well-lit and family-friendly.

Of course, we have to mention Lucas the long-time Taproom manager who has been holding down the fort with us all these years.  Be sure to say hi to him the next time you are in!  With great brews crafted on-site, to trivia nights, to community events and run clubs, you are sure to find community (and creativity) at this Lacey Brewery.  Visit Top Rung Brewing Website

#2. Cup of Swords Tavern, Olympia Washington

If you are looking for a paint and sip where you can really dive into your creative and make-believe side, this partner venue is where you will find it!  Cup of Swords is a recently opened tavern in Olympias Downtown that puts the FUN back into going out!  Besides regular Artvana Paint and Sips twice a month they also have some really unique and fun events happening regularly like:

Dress like a Pirate Day | The Scupper Monkeys Band | DND games and one-shots | Costume parties

Come indulge your fantasies with us at Cup of Swords Tavern, join their ‘Shield Wall’ mug club and get a huge HUZZAH when you order your drinks!  Visit Cup of Swords Tavern Website

#3 Fog and Fern Coffeehouse, Lacey Washington

As mentioned we don’t just paint at alcohol-friendly venues, we have some sweet spots for you non-drinkers too!  This one is close to my heart as it is my very own sisters shop!  I love that we get to collaborate as local business owners and the Artvana events here are relaxing and community-focused.

All of Fog and Fern Coffees pastries in the case are hand-made by my sistah!  They also serve top-of-the-line coffee brewed and poured expertly for your sipping pleasure.  Come check them out I am sure it will be one of your new favorite hangs.  View the Fog and Fern Coffee Website

Family friendly holiday events and activities

Hello, today we are talking about how to hand-make and get the MOST out of your Holiday season.

Sometimes the Holidays can start to feel like a rat-race of hustle and bustle, so today, we want to take a moment to SLOW down and review a few ways to make your Holidays and traditions feel more genuine, more authentic and more enjoyable!

Go fix up a cup of hot cocoa and settle in for this cozy read.

Move over mass-produced plastic gifts.  Step aside last-minute checkout aisle gifts.  This year we are bringing a personal touch to the Holidays and packing them full of genuine care and heartfelt details!

Here’s how

More and more often we see an increase in the quick, cheap, and fast.  In everyday life and in the gifts available for the Holiday season.  It seems that everything is getting faster and faster, doesn’t it?  We want everything right now!  During a busy time of year like Christmas, the rush can feel unsustainable.  It can add more stress and steal our joy before you even know it.  How do we combat the ever-increasing pressure?

We have to make a choice.  We are about to give you some easy, accessible ideas to slow down your Holiday season and indulge in all the GOOD stuff that you don’t want to miss.

Have you ever been sifting through an old box in the closet or attic and found something hand-made by a relative or even by your younger self?  Perhaps it is a bit worn with age, clumsily signed in the corner in your childish scribble or a relative’s granny scrawl.  This piece of art likely isn’t perfect, but it’s probably loaded with information about you or your relative!  What details do you notice?  What story does it tell?  Already you can see that something hand-made carries with it, a specialness.

Hand-made art and gifts can be the catalysts that spark endless stories and memories.  Maybe you have heard things in your family like “Aunt Betty used to make marvelous crocheted blankets, before she got arthritis” Or “Grandma Lily used to make watercolors and always won blue ribbons at the state fair!”  Now, can you imagine your children sorting through a box just like this years down the road?

hand-make your Holidays with an artvana paint and sip in washington

How neat would it be for them to be pulling out hand-made Christmas ornaments made by YOU to decorate the tree?  Or discovering a painted canvas from one of their siblings.  Or finding photos from a paint party or craft night.  These pieces are not perfect, and we wouldn’t want them that way!  Hand-made items for your Holiday decor and hand-made gifts always bring an air of authenticity to the Season.

So maybe now you are thinking….“But I’m not creative and no one would ever want to see or have my crafts!” We hate to tell you that you are wrong!  Remember, it’s about being genuine and authentically you!  Maybe you are the weird Aunt that puts googly eyes on everything, or the Grandpa who is obsessed with Gnomes, that is what makes your items special, YOU make them special.  These are the hidden treasures that will be passed along in family and tradition, the things that will carry meaning as we pull them out year after year.  The things that will make us remember the important people in our lives and spark new stories and memories for generations to come.

There are so many ways you can get hands-on this Holiday season.  Here are some ideas to get you started, as well as some links to our Holiday Ornament Classes and Christmas paint parties.

Baking homemade goods

Homemade canned goods or bath and body products

Crocheted items such as hats, scarves or coasters

Hand-painted Christmas Cards

Hand-sewn or embroidered stockings
