Why a Paint and Sip with Mom is the Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift

  • Quality Time Without Distractions: Phones down, paintbrushes up. When you’re painting together, you’re truly present—laughing, creating, and maybe a little bit of friendly competition!

  • A Shared Experience: Material gifts are nice, but shared experiences create lasting memories. Every time Mom looks at her painting, she’ll remember the joy and laughter you shared that day.

  • It’s Something Different: Instead of another brunch or flower bouquet, give Mom an experience she’ll talk about for years. Plus, who doesn’t love a little wine and a lot of color?

  • Zero Stress, All Fun: At Artvana, our talented instructors guide you every step of the way. No pressure, no judgment—just fun, creativity, and connection.

Other Creative Ways to Celebrate Mom in Washington State

If you want to make an entire weekend out of it, here are some more ways to get creative with Mom:

  • Visit a Botanical Garden: Stroll through the stunning tulip fields at Roozengaarde in Mount Vernon or the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle for a colorful, floral-filled day.

  • Attend a Pottery or Glass-Blowing Class: Places like Seattle Glassblowing Studio or Tacoma’s Museum of Glass offer hands-on workshops that make for an unforgettable, artsy adventure.

  • Take a Scenic Art Walk: Explore local art markets like the Olympia Arts Walk or the Fremont Sunday Market in Seattle. You’ll find local artists, live music, and plenty of inspiration.

  • Craft Your Own Wine Tour: Washington is known for its incredible wineries. Book a tasting at places like Chateau Ste. Michelle or Woodinville Wine Country, and pair it with a picnic and a painting class for the ultimate creative escape.

Make It Easy: Give Mom an Artvana Gift Card

Not sure which class to pick or looking for a last-minute gift? An Artvana Gift Card is the perfect solution. Let Mom choose the class that fits her schedule (or join her for a future session!). It’s a thoughtful, unique gift that shows you care about spending real time together—not just checking a box.

3 places to find paint and sip in washington

Hello and welcome to Artvana!  If you are looking for Paint and Sip in Washington state you are in the right place!

Maybe you have been hearing the buzz about how fun a paint and sip class is and you are ready to jump in and join the fun.  Or maybe you are a long-time paint and sipper and want to find more events and classes you can attend.

So let’s get you painting!

Artvana is a leading paint and sip provider in Washington state and we started locally in Yelm WA in 2017Since then we have expanded our team of artists to 10 and the number of WA counties we paint in to 6!

WA Counties where you can find Artvana Paint and Sip:

King | Pierce | Kitsap | Thurston | Lewis | Spokane

We offer a large selection of approximately 30-40 classes per month, so you have more date and time options to paint.  One thing that really makes Artvana unique is that we do not have our own ‘Studio’ space.  Instead of limiting ourselves to one location that people need to travel to, we travel to you!  With a large list of excellent local partner venues, you can find classes near you almost anywhere!

Each venue brings a different vibe and atmosphere so you can pick and choose your paint and sips.  From coffee houses to breweries, alcohol or N/A, we know there is a paint-and-sip event waiting in our calendar that will be perfect for you!

Now let’s shine a spotlight on 3 of our partner venues!  Today we will be focusing on our partners in Olympia Washington.

#1. Top Rung Brewing, Lacey Washington

Top Rung is one of our long-standing partner venues and we have been painting it up there since 2018!  Retired firefighters opened Top Rung Brewing which has a stylish firefighter theme including hanging ladders.  It’s big and spacious with huge tables for painting which we love, well-lit and family-friendly.

Of course, we have to mention Lucas the long-time Taproom manager who has been holding down the fort with us all these years.  Be sure to say hi to him the next time you are in!  With great brews crafted on-site, to trivia nights, to community events and run clubs, you are sure to find community (and creativity) at this Lacey Brewery.  Visit Top Rung Brewing Website

#2. Cup of Swords Tavern, Olympia Washington

If you are looking for a paint and sip where you can really dive into your creative and make-believe side, this partner venue is where you will find it!  Cup of Swords is a recently opened tavern in Olympias Downtown that puts the FUN back into going out!  Besides regular Artvana Paint and Sips twice a month they also have some really unique and fun events happening regularly like:

Dress like a Pirate Day | The Scupper Monkeys Band | DND games and one-shots | Costume parties

Come indulge your fantasies with us at Cup of Swords Tavern, join their ‘Shield Wall’ mug club and get a huge HUZZAH when you order your drinks!  Visit Cup of Swords Tavern Website

#3 Fog and Fern Coffeehouse, Lacey Washington

As mentioned we don’t just paint at alcohol-friendly venues, we have some sweet spots for you non-drinkers too!  This one is close to my heart as it is my very own sisters shop!  I love that we get to collaborate as local business owners and the Artvana events here are relaxing and community-focused.

All of Fog and Fern Coffees pastries in the case are hand-made by my sistah!  They also serve top-of-the-line coffee brewed and poured expertly for your sipping pleasure.  Come check them out I am sure it will be one of your new favorite hangs.  View the Fog and Fern Coffee Website

Things to do for dry January in Washington state

As a beautiful New Year unfolds before us many of you may be taking this chance to cut back or even participate in Dry January.

Dry January can be a challenge to complete when so much of our culture seems to revolve around drinking but today I am going to share some great ideas and insights with you to make your Dry January more fun!

As a recovered alcoholic myself with nearly 4 years sober I know how un-fun a dry January can sound.  Boring right, staying at home holed up trying to avoid bars, friends, and parties where we may be tempted to drink.  Trying to do something ‘good’ for us shouldn’t be so hard.  The key to accomplishing your resolution is in finding NEW ways to interact with friends and community that are not SO focused on catching a buzz.

Even if you aren’t thinking about trying dry January these tips are still great if you struggle with social anxiety, depression, stress or the winter blues.

So now that you have decided to give it a go what are you going to do all month?

You might not see the challenge until someone calls you up and wants to grab a beer or invites you to a celebration.  The key to a successful dry January is realizing that you made this choice, no one is making you do it and it doesn’t have to be a long and terrible struggle to make it through.

Change is always hard but it is also invigorating and exciting if you let it be!  Dry January could become a month you look forward to a way to reset, revive and reconnect with yourself and your body.

Purposefully use this time to step outside of your comfort zone and embrace those uncomfortable feelings.  It’s easier when you know its coming, when you choose to do something that you know will make you uncomfortable you can head into the activity head on knowing you are participating in this to grow and challenge yourself.

Maybe you have always wanted to participate in a running or walking group but always put it off, because, it’s easier to snuggle in with a glass of wine.  Joining a local club is a great activity for dry January!

Perhaps you have entertained the thought of taking a new class such as Zumba, kickboxing, painting, sewing, bread baking or even sculpting.  Shifting your focus away from ‘I’m avoiding this” to “I’m trying to accomplish this” is a huge step in the right direction.  Taking a new class is a great way to focus your mind in a new direction instead of focusing on how many days are left in January and stand between you and an ice cold frosty beer!

Alongside testing your comfort zone, setting goals and looking ahead, going sober for dry January will give you a huge boost to your mental clarity.  What could be better than a clear, fresh mind as we go into a new year!  Plus with all the extra clarity, physical energy and extra cash you will have from abstaining this month a new activity is just what you need to take advantage of these benefits.

Now I said three ways to make dry January more fun.  The third piece of this puzzle is YOUYou are already taking steps that are good for your body and your social life but what about you?  Self-care during dry January is hands-down the most important aspect.  Taking a break from alcohol means you will have more time and energy to spend time with yourself.  Indulge in a new way, treat yourself to a spa day instead of a Rosé, write a letter to yourself or in your journal instead of using Chardonnay to wind down.  Because you will have extra clarity during the month it’s an opportune time to reconnect and get back in touch with your inner self.  Slow down, be in the moment, and sip on something nourishing instead.

That’s my two cents now let’s get into some actionable ways you can make Dry January fun!

  1. Join a club, something that will get you out of the house and preferably moving but any kind of club will do!  Expose yourself to new people and ideas and keep your calendar full by adding a weekly activity.  Here are some fun clubs and activities you can join in Thurston, Pierce and Kitsap County Washington.

Olympia Run Club

Gig Harbor Run Club

Tacoma Girls Book Club

Olympia Silent Book Club

2. Join a class!  Of course I have to mention Artvana classes here as well as a few of my other favorites!  You may be thinking wait, isn’t Artvana a paint and sip?  Don’t you have to drink? The Answer is NO!

Aside from our Paint and sips we hold at Breweries and Wineries we also have a whole bunch of classes that are not alcohol focused or completely alcohol free!  Most of our N/A partner venues are local coffee shops in the Lacey and Olympia area, and in our other 5 service counties.  Take Fog and Fern Coffeehouse in Lacey Washington for example.  We hold a monthly class here on a Sunday afternoon.  Aside from the afternoon vibe they do not serve any alcohol but instead offer delicious coffee drinks and hand-made pastries and food items.  It’s the perfect change of pace and something fun to do for dry January.  Here are links to our next classes happening at Fog and Fern.  I do hope you will join us for one of these relaxing paint and sip classes.
